Burger Basics

Burger Burger offers you 2 sizes of patty. You can go with the smaller 4oz patty, or opt for the bigger 6oz. As for the make-up of the patty, they are what look to be home made, from your run of the mill ground beef. As for cooking them? , they're just lightly seasoned with simple salt and pepper and are grilled on the small flat-top they have in the back to a well-done. The bun is a soft kaiser, fresh and squeezable and well suited for the task of maintaining a burg. Overall, the burg is well put together.

The Extras

This joint offers you a fair variety of choices for your burg, and all of the extras that go along with seem to be of a fairly descent quality. Product is fresh, bacon was crunchy and the cheese was melted well. The only real knock I have, is the cheese. I can't stand processed cheese and unfortunately these folks slapped me in the face with a good ol slice of kraft single on my burg. I understand that it comes in a perfect burger shape and thickness, but that doesn't mean it's your only option. If you must try to sully my burger with it, atleast give fair warning. Perhaps in the form of a giant notice on your menu board, or an offering of a different type of cheese instead. Other than that, I went with fries for my meal, and they appear to be fresh cut, fried to a nice crunch.

The Experience

Burger Burger is run by a nice couple and is the epitome of greasy spoon. There are 3 tables inside and a bar to belly up to around the perimeter of the room. Very little decor other than the giant white menu board that hangs from the wall.

My Take

When I sat down and glanced around this joint while I was waiting for my burg, I started to get a little nervous. This joint has all the markings of a greasy spoon, and a greasy spoon always runs the risk of shelling out burger bombs. While the menu board offered the hope that their variety meant that they know their way around a burger, I just wasn't fully comfortable with the scenario. On first sight, I was afraid that my worst fears had been realized. Processed Cheese. What did I do to these people? Actually, it wasn't that bad. Looking at the burg, you have what looks to be a typical greasy spoon hand made and flat-top smashed patty, in all it's misshapen glory. All-in-all, not a bad burg from a burger dive. Finally, while my meal itself wasn't the cheapest, they do offer a meal of their 4oz burg (without extra toppings), fries and a pop for under $6. Burger Burger's definitely got a great bang-for-your-buck burg going on.

Burger Rating Scale: Explained

To start, just a note explaining the weighted rating of the burg. We understand that it might be a little confusing, but the thought is that certain points of a burger just have more of an effect on how good a burger really is. For example, we feel the quality of the patty has a bigger impact on the burger than the cost or how well it holds together.

  • Quality of Bun: How was the bun? Fresh? Chewy? We always hope for the freshest possible bun, something that we can grip on to and that will act as a proper container for the burger itself
  • Quality of Patty: Ah, the essence of the burg. How good is the patty though? I mean, are we dealing with the ideal 80/20 chuck? Or, do we have a patty riddled with filler and other foreign and unwanted product?
  • Quality of Toppings: How fresh is the produce on the burg? How fresh are the sauces? How well prepared are the other wild and wonderful things that adorn our burg?
  • Selection of Toppings: Is this a joint that tells you what to get? Or is the the sky the limit? There's something to be said for a place that will let you pile some onion rings, a fried egg and a half a Bavarian on your burg.
  • Preparation: How well are the 'essentials' prepared? Did you have the makings for a good patty, but Joe Chef burnt it beyond recognition? Was the patty great, but that heap of bacon you wanted was uncooked? Overall, how was the burger put together?
  • Aesthetics: Nothing says delicious like a burger that is giving you those "come hither" looks with how delicious IT looks.
  • Manageability: How far did you make it before the burger fell apart? I know a good burger is supposed to be juicy and leave your hands a mess, but I don't feel that I should be eating the majority of it with a fork.
  • Drip Factor: Just how far down your arm did that succulent stream of burger juices make it? We all know that noone leaves a proper burger battle without getting a little messy
  • Uniqueness: Can you get this burg at McDonalds? Did they take some time to actually make something different here? You can have burgers that are just plain amazing, and you can have burgers that are amazing and make you think "Where did they come up with this?"
  • Overall Flavor: Did your taste-buds do a jig? Does your mouth water at the mere mention of this burger joint? Flavor is where it’s at baby!
  • Value: How much "bang for your buck" factor was involved? Obviously you pay for greatness, but sometimes it is unjust, and sometimes it is just a treat.
